Money left over when a property sells for more than the judgment. It goes to junior lienholders and then the former owner, not the buyer.
Why it matters to a bidder
Paying more than the judgment does not earn the buyer anything back. A surplus does tell you that junior liens were wiped out and are likely to chase the money rather than the property.
